This eight-story building provides 1,000 student beds for Swansea University’s new science campus, designed to meet the needs of modern student living while prioritizing efficiency and sustainability. The entire structure, from foundations to completion, was constructed using precast Twin Wall Elements. Each structural component was meticulously designed into individual panel elements, manufactured in Ireland, and transported to Swansea for on-site assembly. This innovative approach allowed for precise quality control during manufacturing, efficient transportation, and rapid construction, minimizing on-site disruption.
The design process leveraged advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to optimize structural efficiency. This not only resulted in significant cost savings but also reduced the building’s carbon footprint compared to traditional construction methods. The project showcases the effective integration of modern engineering techniques and sustainable construction practices to deliver a high-quality, durable, and environmentally conscious development.
